FEATURE SPEAKER | Feature Address
Luke Browne
Robert Theodore Luke Vincent Browne, or simply Luke, is the standard bearer of academic and all-round achievement in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His long track record of academic excellence started in primary school. He then produced the most outstanding performance by a Vincentian in what we commonly call the CXC examinations in 2002. He earned a National Scholarship in 2004 and became the first Vincentian to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 2008 as a result of his academic brilliance, achievement in sports, concern for human development and leadership ability. Indeed, Mr. Browne was a very good sportsman and represented his school, nation and region variously in road relay athletics, swimming, football and cricket. He also participated with great success in numerous debates and public speaking competitions and was heavily involved in student leadership all along the way.
Our featured personality received the George Phillips Excellence Award when he was a fourth form student. He was the president and top salesman of his Junior Achievers Business company. Luke Browne was Valedictorian of the St. Vincent Grammar School and Valedictorian of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC).
Mr. Browne spent some time in the teaching service. He was a teacher at the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia and a tutor and the St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua and at the SVGCC Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies. Luke left for university after his stint in teaching and made his mark at the Cave Hill Campus at the University of the West Indies and then at the University of Oxford. At Cave Hill he became the first Vincentian and youngest person to be elected president of the Guild of Students and received a BSc. in Mathematics and Economics with top honours.
Mr. Browne, who made his national political debut in the 2010 general elections, completed an MSc. in Applied Statistics at the first rate University of Oxford. He is a serious writer and published author with an excellent sense of history who spearheaded the organisation of the BEHOLD the man Lecture Series in 2008. Mr. Browne, who is now an Economist in the Ministry of Finance and who previously was a Key Projects Facilitator for National Properties Limited, is working tirelessly for the people of East Kingstown and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We believe that his day will come. We present to you an outstanding role model, R. T. Luke V. Browne.
